POV 2008 Season Announced

TRACES OF THE TRADESummer is almost upon us and that means the excellent POV series on . I have mentioned a lot in the two years I have been writing this blog because the programming is excellent, they pay their filmmakers fairly (yes, this still impresses me) and it means millions of viewers tuning in to see some of the wonderful films that might not otherwise have such a big audience.

The 2008 launches on June 24 with Katrina Browne’s Traces of the Trade. Her film was a part of the IFP Market the year that I was there, and I am curious to see how it turned out. It follows Katrina and members of her family as they explore their family background in the slave trade. Magnetic Baby, Episode 2

MagneticBaby1.jpgI’m way late in announcing that the second episode of Magnetic Baby, the online documentary by David Becker and Pamela Romanowsky about glam rockers Semi Precious Weapons, is available. I was reminded to get on the stick by a great article by Shira Golding at MediaRights who interviewed the filmmakers about how things are going in their search for funding and finding an audience in the pretty much uncharted waters of vodcasting a documentary.

“The pair screened early cuts to folks at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music and film festival, where they were shooting the band, and were encouraged by the positive responses. That’s when they decided to start getting the project out to audiences via podcasting. ‘Podcasting is just a very very cool, very accessible medium right now. It’s free for the viewer, and it couldn’t be easier to download and watch,’ says Becker.” Read the entire article>>

They haven’t released a 3rd episode yet so better late than never! Watch the Episodes 1 & 2>>
