Media That Matters Festival Announces Line-up
The 8th Annual Media That Matters Film Fest will kick off on May 28 with a screening of the winning shorts at the IFC Center in NYC. But, one of the beautiful things about this fest is that it is online and anyone can watch the films! Full line-up (ttile followed by award) after the jump.
Cinedulce: Julieta y Ramon
One of my favorite people in NYC is filmmaker Hugo Perez. His short Julieta y Ramon is showing on WNET’s ReelNY as well as online as part of Cinedulce’s presentation of NY International Latino Film Fest shorts. I tried to embed the video but the code wasn’t working correctly so here is a link to it. Another short by Hugo, Betty la Flaca, will be on HBO Latino in August and September. It’s a riot–highly recommend!
These are narrative shorts, but he has a feature doc coming out soon and one in progress, so keep your eyes peeled for more Hugo Perez!
SXSWclick Festival
I don’t usually post call for entries, as there are plenty of bulletin boards for that, but I’m making an exception here - not only is it the very cool SXSW and the prizes are awesome, but I’m lucky enough to be invited to be on the jury. Submit your best work so we will have to thumb wrestle war to choose! (Photo from SXSW Clicks 2006 - Playing Chicken)
“To be eligible for the SXSWclick event, shorts must be under 10 minutes in length and can be submitted on DVD. Full rules and regulations for the fest are available on the official site. On June 25, SXSW will announce three finalists in five different shorts categories: “Old School Shorts” (narrative), “Really Real Shorts” (documentary), “Sound Checks” (music video), “Animate It” (animated), and “What the F?” (humor and/or experimental). The finalists will be judged by audience votes and jury consideration. There is an assortment of special prizes for the winners, including the one Grand Jury Prize taken from all five categories, which will include a MacPro Workstation and Apple Cinema Display courtesy of iThentic.”
