Meanwhile, Miami Winners & AFI Dallas Announces Films
SXSW is all-encompassing right now but I got a couple of emails yesterday reminding me that time marches on. Miami International Film Festival announced yesterday that João Moreira Salles’ Santiago won the Knight Grand Jury Prize, with Special Mentions going to Santa Fe Street (Calle Santa Fe) and A Paper Tiger (Un Tigre de Papel).
I had the fortune of seeing Santiago during the Tribeca Film Festival as one of their world cinema films that was available for download through Jaman during the fest. It is a beautiful and engaging film. Also, STRANDED: I come from a plane that crashed on the mountains won the Audience Award. Congrats to the filmmakers and I hope Miami went off without a hitch!
Also, the AFI Dallas fest announced their film line-up for this year’s incarnation, which I’m hoping to head north for at the end of the month. Doc competition films after the jump or download the whole program.
Miami International Film Fest Docs Announced
I’m not only behind on Sundance but also on the fests announcing this week. Sorry friends! Miami runs from February 28 - March 9, and the docs are programmed by the lovely Karina Rotenstein. She travels between Miami, New York and Toronto so many of you probably have met her; she world premiered last year’s Mississippi Chicken. She has a nose for good docs, so I’m always excited to hear about what she is showing. Here are the documentaries from the MIFF line-up:

Miami International Film Fest
This year’s Miami International Film Festival will take place from March 2 - 11. The program was just announced (via Variety) and looks really great, and the doc program in particular looks exciting. Past winners at Miami include greats like La Sierra(dirs. Scott Dalton and Margarita Martinez pictured right) and Balseros.
Since you have to scroll through a long PDF to see the selections, I’m going to copy them here after the jump. Films I’m looking forward to this year that are in the program, Banished by Marco Williams, Off the Grid by Jeremy Stulberg & Randy Stulberg and Manufactured Landscapes by Jennifer Baichwal.
