[...] The Geek’s Guide to SXSW Film. Every year I say “I’m going to a movie!” and I think I have exactly once, to see one of my friends’ short films. This year I am, at least, going to see the new Paul Rudd/Jason Siegel movie I Love You Man. I’m an Apatow sucker. [...]

I'm the founder of http://sxsw2009.sched.org/ an all inclusive sxsw scheduling including all official + unofficial events. You can create your own schedule, share it with friends, view it nicely formatted for your iPhone etc.. here's mine: http://sxsw2009.sched.org/gtmcknight

I'm going to SXSW film and found it frustrating to watch the trailers, then tab back over and add it to my schedule so I put them in one place: http://sxsw2009.sched.org/film-trailers

If you are logged into sxsw2009.sched.org, you can search for the films while you watch the trailers and easily add them to your schedule.

We were on the front page of wired.com as the breakout app of last year's SXSWi conference, and we've been looking to add more features for film and music people this year. You can see the buzz we've been getting at: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=sxsw2009.sched.org

I protect my Twitter account really just as a form of "call screening". It gives me a little more control over who follows me. For instance, I generally don't let "brands" or people with unnaturally high following:followers ratios, but if you're a real human being whom I know or who makes some effort, then I don't mind letting you follow me.

Also, I just suppose anyone following my personal twitter account who only knows me from my film blog might be surprised at all the other frivolous stuff I talk about, so it's really meant for people who know me personally.

It's funny how Twitter now is like blogging was in 2000. We're all figuring out our boundaries and what's acceptable to talk about. I suppose after learning those lessons (well, still learning them) with my blogs, I'm just trying to apply them to this new "microblogging" environment.

Sorry for the long-winded response!

Thanks for mentioning PBS's Interactive Social Media and Online Video Studio (which will be March 14-16). For anyone who wants more detail -- the Facebook event/invitation page is at http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=308057&banter_id=817245174&show_all#/event.php?eid=52520693251

Our events are open to all Film & Interactive badge holders. Please stop by -- we want to encourage SXSWers from both groups to mingle and have a good time.

I didn't add you James because your Tweets are protected. I didn't realize you had another for your blog. Do you protect them so others can see or just so Google isn't caching them? I always assumed protected Tweets meant not open to the public.

Agnes, this is pure gold, and I'm going to share this with my Interactive fest pals. I've been trying to "cross over" from Interactive to Film myself the past few years, and I hope that some of this information will make it easier for the two communities (who have so much in common) to meet.

p.s. I've got two Twitter accounts: @jmcnally is personal (and not strictly film-related) and @toscreenshots is for my film blog.
