Today I was shocked to see my buddy Karina Longworth’s face hawking Jackass 2.5 for Blockbuster. Upon closer inspection, it looks like she probably that added an application to her profile (Movie Clique) that somehow granted permission for this. Karina, did you see this? Thoughts? (I edited my applications out of the image but the ad is unaltered.)facebook_ad.jpg

  1. That’s extremely weird, because a) I did not consent to having my name or profile picture associated with a Jackass 2.5 ad, and b) I didn’t even add that Movie Clique app. I’ve never heard of it. I posted a screencap of my installed Facebook apps here:

Is this some kind of glitch, you think? Or something creepier?

  2. Oh, I don’t think it’s a glitch, given all the press about the company’s desire to utilize the data that people enter to associate users with advertising. The sinister part is that it isn’t some Joe Schmoe advertising a movie, but you who has some influence over what people watch. This is the kind of thing that is going to send the “good” users away, leaving only the marketers/spammers/guilible people, or in other words, MySpace. Ugh. I love Facebook - I hate to see this.
