Forever by Heddy Honigmann
In case you didn’t notice, I walk a fine line working for a documentary distributor and also writing about docs. I’ve allowed others to do the writing about the films that I’m trying to generate publicity for, to at least try to appear objective. But, I’m going to have to meander over to the other side to be sure that my dear readers know about this film, Forever by Heddy Honigmann. It is one of the best films I’ve seen so far this year and because of its quiet, lyrical qualities, it has been flying a bit under the radar, though folks who have seen it have sung its praises, including Tom Hall in a wonderful mention after its Silverdocs screening.
I won’t venture a review, but I’ll point you to a not only positive but beautifully written review by Stuart Klawans for The Nation and the trailer to get a peek. It opens at Film Forum on September 12 in NYC and on September 21 at the E Street Cinema in DC. Other dates will be posted on First Run/Icarus Film’s Playdates page if you are elsewhere in the country. Do yourself a favor and see this film.

Comment by A propósito de Punto de Vista on 9 September 2007:
This extraordinary film won the Punto de Vista prize at the “Punto de Vista” International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra, a small festival who aims to be a meeting point for all documentary film makers who, in a free and experimental way, explore the cinema ability for recording time and, as Jean Vigo used to say, “open our eyes and help us to look beyond the appearances”.

Reading the Klawans review put me on the right track but this time I was more surprised and pleased than ever before!
Honigman at Pere-Lachaise is a master’s masterpiece.
