Space Shuttle Columbia

I had forgotten about the Columbia disaster, but was reminded today via Wired. The other lost shuttle I remember was Challenger when I was in grade school. It was a big deal because a teacher was on board as well, so everyone was watching. Both accidents wounded our collective psyche beyond the actual loss of that small group of people and equipment. Each of us has a little bit of our own hopes and dreams tied up in the space program, and pieces of our dreams died with those astronauts. RIP.

There is something else interesting about the Wired post - note the bottom where it says “Source: Wikipedia.” I’m not sure how widely this particular debate has spread, but to get you up to speed, Middlebury College declared recently that it would not allow Wikipedia to be cited as a source.

Some articles around this issue that you might find intriguing (I know, not doc related, but definitely technology and information veracity, which is important no matter what we talk about…)
