Music From Film Folks

The Sadies @ Horseshoe TavernI hate this time of year when all of the year’s best films come out in a month and halfs time when we average Janes and Joes are too busy to see all of them. Yet the critics, who have been looking at them for months now, innundate us with lists of their picks! Ugh. However, Matt Dentler over at SXSW has put together a different kind of list that I’m enjoying perusing. He surveyed his address book for “top 5″ best music from film folks.

I didn’t participate because there are, literally, 6 songs on my iTunes from 2006 (of course, others didn’t take him so literally and responded anyways…). There is some stuff I’m familiar with (I went to see The Sadies when I was in Toronto for HotDocs – pictured; Sufan Stevens, who is this weeks free iTunes download, but hurry) and a few I’m looking forward to checking out (Arctic Monkeys; Justin Timberlake – who knew?; and who is this Cat Power they speak of?). It makes me chuckle that Danielson is on JL’s list.

It’s good fun and chances are that unlike the movie awards lists, you will have easy access to the suggestions. Check it out for some new tunes!
