South Asian-American Films hit NYC

The Namesake by Mira NairThe event is the 6th annual Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival and it runs from November 1 - 5 in NYC. For those familiar with the IFP world, Pooja Kholi, managing director of the IFP Market, also has a big hand in putting together IAAC. Another IFP colleague, Payal Sethi, who once upon a time worked with Mira Nair, is also working on the festival - so it should be no surprise that Nair’s newest film The Namesake is kicking off the festival! Payal also has a bit part in the film - it’s a small world, really.

I noticed some other IFP goodies in the line-up: View from a Grain of Sand by Meena Nanji and Ghandi at the Bat by Stephanie Argy & Alec Boehm (a narrative short).

Check it out!

  1. Pooja Kohli deserves all the credit for putting up the big show. But she does not get her since Aroon shivdasani of the IAAC hogs it all.

  2. correction: 2nd line ” But she does not get her SHARE of credit since Aroon shivdasani of the IAAC hogs it all.
