Vote to Air
I’ve made several posts discussing the pros and cons of posting on free video hosting sites. They have their uses - ah, but for me, at this moment in time, I’m really digging vote-to-air. Current TV allows you to “greenlight” content for potential airing on the network. Projects that get enough greenlights get a slot.
Also from the WGBH Lab (a way of exploiting their attempts to discover new media outlets and reach out to the public in new ways), the 6:55 Shorts contest asks for votes in determining which project pitches should be developed. Very cool! (You have to download the Open Media Network software.)
Not necessarily vote to air, but POV’s Borders project allows users to create videos and upload them. It is also using Open Media Network which is described as “a nonprofit focused on making it easier to find high-quality video and audio programming created by non-commercial networks, educational institutions, nonprofits and community-based organizations.” It’s kind of like iTunes for public/nonprofit media. I’ll report back after I’ve had a chance to really experiment.
