BadLit
Found a cool new blog yesterday, BadLit by Mike Everleth, and I want to share one of the articles I found there: 10 Ways to Market Your Uunderground Film Online for (Mostly) Free
I second all of Mike’s suggestions, but I’d add one thing. It goes along with commenting on other people’s blogs, but I’d go a step farther. In trying to create a community around your project, be genuinely interested in the work of others. I am happy to receive messages promoting peoples projects, etc. but if they never bother to check out my blog or ask me what I’m up to, at some point, I start to feel like a faceless mass. I’m then probably less inclined to bother with the stuff you send me. Perhaps it’s unfortunate for a time- and cash-strapped filmmaker to reach out, but perhaps you will discover new things that you never expected - creating community is more than generating an audience.

Thanks for the plug. Glad you liked the article. I’ve gotten some feedback and it seems like the piece was genuinely helpful, which is nice to hear.
Very nice website you have here, too. I’m bookmarking it and will check back. Always interested to see what docs are out there, both for BadLit and for IFILM.com, where I work.
And I agree with your point totally. But what’s true about blog commenting is also true about real life. There are the filmmakers who are out there who you can tell are all about just advancing their careers and don’t care about the “community.” Which is the stupid route to go, because the best way to advance is to be genuinely friendly and help others.
